I did not have time to do any more tests yet. Sorry Dave... I just tried
the out-of-the-box method and had to do other things afterwards. I hope
to try it again soon.

I had a go and couldn't reproduce the problem. I asked Hans for more
details of his cygwin installation but haven't heard back yet.

Heh, I bootstrap and test gcc with all languages on a 850MHz Athlon.
