yeah, apparently me neither:

apologies to the list and thanks for the help.
I took a wrong turn somwhere in my cross compiling efforts,
got completely lost and confused myself thoroughly.
I did indeed use the wrong headers for my target
(cygwin headers instead of glibc headers) and have now a working
cygwin -> xscale-linux cross compilers.

Danke Waldemar, ich hab's mir einfach zu kompliziert gemacht!
